Questions about the Circuit

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the competition work?

The SCL Circuit runs as a season. Schools compete in scheduled virtual head-to-head matches, and published match results build the season standings.

How does a match work?

Each school selects three competitors and seeds them one, two, and three. Each seed completes three attempts in the SCL 3x3 Individual format; every attempt consists of three consecutive 3x3 solves without inspection. The fastest valid attempt is the seed result.

How can my school participate?

Start with at least three students and designate a School Organizer to maintain the roster and coordinate participation.

Can nearby schools compete in person?

Yes. Two teams in close proximity are permitted and encouraged to host their match in person in a shared space. Teams that cannot meet locally may compete on a shared video call or complete their attempts separately during the match window.

Do we need to record the match?

Yes. Submit a recording of the shared in-person or video-call match. If competitors complete their attempts separately, submit the separate recordings instead. SCL uses recordings to verify results. Public highlight use requires separate, optional permission from every identifiable participant.

Review participant media permission
Do competitors need to meet a speed requirement?

No. The Circuit does not require a minimum solving speed to participate.

What equipment is needed?

Competitors need a timer, three 3x3 cubes, and a device that can record the match. The same three cubes may be reset and used for all three attempts.
