We are thrilled to announce that the United States School Cubing League will merge with the Scholastic Cube League. The decision was a natural one: both organizations believe that team-based speedcubing deepens students’ engagement with the sport while creating meaningful opportunities to compete, collaborate, and lead.
USSCL Season 4 will be operated by the Scholastic Cube League as the inaugural season of the SCL Circuit, building on the competition and community that USSCL’s student leaders have created. Cubing is even more fun when students compete as a team and represent their schools, and together we can bring that experience to more students and communities.
A shared vision for school cubing
At the heart of both organizations is a belief that school cubing can offer students far more than individual results. With team competitions, each solve can contribute to something larger: the success of a team, the pride of a school, and the strength of a community. That shared purpose adds another layer of fun and excitement while building stronger connections among classmates.
School cubing also gives students opportunities to organize, communicate, make decisions, solve problems, and build something for their communities. During my tenure as a board member with the World Cube Association, it became clear to me that leadership experiences can be as meaningful, if not more so, than the times from the stopwatch.
By bringing USSCL and SCL together, we can pursue this shared vision through one platform, one competition structure, and one national school cubing community.
Students will continue to lead
The student leaders from USSCL will be responsible for operating the SCL Circuit, and SCL will provide the organizational foundation and guidance needed for it to grow. We would be thrilled if, over time, leaders from USSCL continued working for the mission of team cubing and took leadership positions with SCL.
SCL has been collaborating with the leadership team from USSCL to build a competition platform, refine rules, and build the school registration and competition operations systems.
While the leadership team from USSCL will be the initial leaders of the SCL Circuit, we hope that students from around the nation will take advantage of opportunities to help organize the season, communicate with participating schools, build partnerships, and grow the school cubing community.
Building the next chapter together
We are grateful to everyone who built USSCL, participated in its competitions, represented their school, and supported its leaders. Their work created the foundation for what comes next. Prior USSCL seasons and results will remain available on the USSCL results website, preserving the history and accomplishments of the league and its participants.
The SCL Circuit will carry that work forward as a student-led season of head-to-head competition between school teams, now operated by the Scholastic Cube League. We believe this new chapter will make school cubing stronger, give more students a reason to compete together, and create more opportunities for students to lead.
